Trust and Obey
Two months from today, April 25th, I will be on my way home!! Well, actually, I'll be on my way to Japan. But, two months and five days from today, I will be on my way home!
In honor of the two month mark, I was going to post some of the funny/cute stories from my classes - kind of in a so-I-can-remember-later kind of way but mostly in a look-how-cute-my-students-are kind of way- but that will have to wait. Instead, I am going to write about me. Typically, I try to write about China (even though it usually just ends up being about me) but, today, I am blatantly writing about me.
Sarah came to visit me last week and as fun as it was having her in China, it also made home, and just how long I have been gone, very real. (I blame it on the homemade cookies my mom sent with her. After 8 months of not having a chocolate chip cookie, let alone a homemade one, once you eat one, all you can think about is getting back to the land of chocolate chips, white sugar and ovens.)
As much as her visit made me miss home, it also made me realize just how lucky I am to have those things to miss.
Before I left, I knew that the home base I have was something special but after coming out here, I have been made more and more aware of just how special and, unfortunately, rare it is to have a group of people that love you no matter how far away you are or how long you have been gone.
This year has been nothing if not a testament to the love and support that I have in America.
From personal visits (can't wait to see you, Uncle David!), to care packages, cards, emails, and even people reading this blog (despite the constant grammatical errors...sorry, mom), the support that I received from halfway around the world has played a major role in, not only making this year happen but, making this year as wonderful as it has been.
So, as much as I will miss Asia during my time at home, I cannot wait for these next 2 months and 5 days to be over so that I can go home....
And also eat my weight in ice cream.
P.S. I titled this blog Trust and Obey because of a memory from this year that I hope to always cherish and I am more than willing to tell you about it but I want to wait until I can tell you about it in person.
[Also, we went to the Xixi Wetlands a few weekends ago, so here are some pictures of the pretty flowers.]
